Programming Note…

I make it a point to cover much more than politics here on the site and on The News Junkie radio show as well. However, with such little time left before the election, it’s now time to point all focus toward election coverage. This will end on the 5th of November, at which point we will go back to the format you’ve become so used to — Politics, News and Hot Topics. For now, buckle up

I’ll be focusing on last-minute cutting-edge election news on The News Junkie radio show on Saturday and I will be part of a round-table discussion starting at 6PM on the 4th. I will provide Listen Live links to all appearances on the radio and the online election coverage will not stop for a moment until the last vote is counted. That said, feel free to post your last minute predictions in the comments. To get things started, the first comment below is my prediction for this election.

Also, don’t forget to reach out to The News Junkie Hotline with any problems you’re noticing at the polls. Are there unbearable lines? Was there an issue when you voted? Did you feel pressured?

I think this election is much closer than most folks are anticipating. I think McCain will win several of the battleground states including - North Carolina and Florida. I think Barack Obama will win the popular vote by somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million votes and the electoral college 322-216.

A more decisive victory than Bush over Kerry in ‘04 but nothing historical.

McCain is closing the gap nationally but, if you look at the maps, an electoral college victory is all but impossible.

I also think that black voter turnout will be above average but not as massive as predicted - the same with the youth vote.

I say Obama takes 93% of the black vote and McCain takes 55% of white males. Women will push Obama over the top.

In the Senate, Democrats will pick up a few seats but fall short of the 60-seat Super Majority they are aiming for — thank God. I put them around 58 in the Senate and they’ll see decent gains in the House as well.

America fell in love with the Change theme… now let’s see if they embrace it. Or will Obama’s populist policies split this country along different lines?

One thing is for sure, I will stand by my pledge. I don’t vote any longer and I am a registered Independent. I have no interest in being partisan or part of any ‘team’. My goal is to cover news as it happens and rationalize the nonsense.

    Now, it’s your turn…

Shawn, I too am a registered independent. Although I do vote, 84 was my first presidential election and I voted for Reagan. I had been in the job market for 2 years and the economy was growing, I was making money. Since then it seems I’ve had to choose between the lesser of two evils. I have even voted libertarian, here we are again, and I have to choose between the lesser of two evils again, although the lesser is by far lesser. It will ba a sad day that I have to choose the dumbocrap McCain over the communist BHO. There hasn’t been a true conservative to run in my life time of presidential candidates, not even Reagan. In some way Reagan was conservative and other ways he wasn’t, he started the flood gates on government spending, although to improve the economy, not for entitlements. It sickens me that everybody is voting with their handout for government entitlements. Why can’t everybody understand that they are responsible for themselves and not the government. How come nobody understands that entitlements are bankrupting the country.
A democrat once said “Ask not what your country can do for you but what can you do for your country”. What happened to this democrat philosophy, the man who said this was the last great president of the U.S. he didn’t take any crap from anyone.
