Meet The Darkhorse: Chet Edwards

WASHINGTON (AP) - Presidential candidate Barack Obama is hours away from naming his running mate, as little-known Texas congressman Chet Edwards is emerging as a finalist.
Democratic officials say that Edwards was one of the few Democrats whose background was checked by Obama’s campaign, and he was a finalist for the job.
Today, my friends, we find out just how powerful Nancy Pelosi is. She made it clear from the start she wasn’t interested in a Hillary/Obama ticket and she’s pushing hard for Chet Edwards.
By the way, George Bush lives in Congressman Chet Edwards district in Texas.
Strangely enough, CNN has live feeds outside the homes of Tim Kaine, Evan Bayh and Joe Biden but nobody bothered to head on over to Chet Edwards’ house with a camera setup.

(CNN) — Texas Rep. Chet Edwards confirms to CNN Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has vetted him for the No. 2. spot on the Democratic presidential ticket.
Edwards also told CNN Obama has not spoken to him in recent days about his VP choice.
Why would Obama (a former virtual unknown) pick Chet Edwards (a current virtual unknown)?
Update: It looks like both Fox News and CNN have crews on the way to Edwards’ house.

With the hammering that Obama is taking regarding his being “out of touch” with the common man, I think he needs to shore up his southern appeal.
Not to mention that picking an unknown has its advantages, like he doesn’t have to worry as much about the baggage the potential running mate would bring ot the campaign. You have to admit that Biden has put his foot in his mouth a few times in the past that would be great ammo for the McCain camp.
Clearly I’m not political analyst, but I could see the sense in Obama picking this guy.
